Collective Worship

At Silverton C of E Primary School we hold a daily act of Collective Worship. We use our Collective Worship time as an opportunity to learn more about our School Christian Values and explore our own thoughts, and beliefs. All of our acts of Collective Worship are designed to help us think about the different ways that we can be like a tree planted by water and flourish in our community.

On Mondays, different teachers lead Collective Worship, using the Picture News resources designed for Church Schools. Picture News provides resources to create engaging and exciting lessons, allowing opportunities for children to learn about our world, develop independence, resilience, respect and unlock their own drive and passion for learning.

Teaching the news not only provides great content and stimulus and grips children’s attention, it is also something that the children can impact. It is current, happening now and so their voice is given meaning and purpose.

· On Tuesdays we have Class Collective Worship, following up the resource 'Picture News. This helps us explore the news and links closely to British Values and allow the children to explore these areas further at their own level of understanding. We also have half termly visits by the ICE [Initiatives in Christian Education] team on Tuesdays.

· On Wednesdays, we often have guests to lead Collective Worship, based on the Collective Worship plan for the year, which covers our values during the year.

· On Thursdays, we have a Singing Collective Worship, where we learn songs and sing together. These songs are often chosen by our JETs team and are linked to our School Christian Values and the Christian calendar.

· Fridays are for our Celebration Collective worship. We all gather together and teachers award certificates to children for their learning and for demonstrating our School Christian Values. We also celebrate achievements outside of school too!

JETS report on what has been happening in Collective Worship during the week in our Friday newsletters. Examples of this include, “We talked about how to encourage people to keep going. It means you're telling someone to keep going and not giving up.” And

“Leon told us about the Christmas story and we thought about this – ‘ A little person, from a small village, can be very special’.
